Tango

 

Around 1900 the tango was born in the working-class neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

The influx of immigrants from Europe is explosive, they come to the land of promise. The Gaucho’s look for work in the city. Fed by desire, disappointment and melancholy, the tango sprouts from this mishmash of cultures.

In addition to music and poetry, dancing forms an important part of tango. This elegant and sensual dance is experiencing a second bloom worldwide since the 1990s.
